Perched among the Andean peaks at 8000 feet, along the Inca Trail, our Finca is located 60 miles north of Cafayate, in the Pucará Valley IG. We pioneered into this unchartered territory and discovered one of the most unique terroirs in the world based on its altitude, climate, soils and orientation. The terroir called for making of legendary wines and we embraced the challenge.
Our unique terroir with highly resilient vines, produces high quality grapes, which translate into single-vineyard wines with strong character, intense color, more tanines, fruit and spices and higher alcohol content (14,9%). Then we tame this high-personality grapes in the winery, balancing character with elegance.
More Sun and Less Rain: we have almost 360 days of sun and very little rain, as we are in the desert, where we can control water through sophisticated irrigation systems. We get only 200 mm of rain per year. More sun means healthy plants (mildiew).
Temperature Differences between night and day: with very hot days and cold nights, thermal amplitude favors the development of polyphenols; i.e. more sugar in the grape pulp, and thus more alcohol.
More UV Rays: because in extreme altitude, there is less oxygen, the grapes defend themselves against UV rays by thickening the skin and the skin is what concentrates aromas and colors.
Wine Culture: the antiguos as the Inca decendents called themselves in the area, have been growing vines and producing wines for over 500 years. Vines were brough from Perú to the Pucará Valley by the Jesuit Priests in the seventeenth century.
